1 Planet, 1 Future - too many short sighted governments

.
.

Johnnyboy darling,
Peter might look like a madman in this photo's lighting, but let me assure you -

We could do far, far worse than having Peter Garrett help control our planet's future .. couldn't we Arthur... or...was that Martha this week?
.

.

.......... so please, tell us YOUR plan ??

I WILL try not to comment TOO much, BUT I will paste part of a newspaper article & some strategically pasted Suitable bumperstickers......

"LABOR will put a rock star in charge of determining Australia's economic future. That was the simple political message from the Prime Minister's speech on climate change "
.
"That doomsayer assumption is based on a scenario helpfully contained in the report of the Prime Minister's joint taskforce on emissions trading brought down on Friday. Significantly, neither Mr Howard nor the taskforce report was willing to set a long-term emissions target for Australia. And yesterday the Prime Minister made it clear he will not set his until after the election."

.

Not willing to tell the Australian people what they are going to be voting for, IF they vote for you this coming Federal election?

.

Anyone suprised he announces nothing of his plan, yet attacks other plans with such effort?

Oh Johnny ! Sounding desperate?
I think he doth protest too much?
Gee, anyone would think Johnny is worried about his job...

Suffer in your jocks johnny
.

"The (Liberal Party) taskforce report ducked the controversial target figure, even though it recommended the Government set up a carbon emissions trading scheme to help put a market price on the cost of greenhouse gas pollution caused by fossil fuels. The report accepted that a long-term target was crucial for the scheme but it did not suggest the figure - leaving Mr Howard a big political opening to attack Labor's target before the election."
.

.
"Most developed countries, besides the US, accept a 60 per cent reduction target as reasonable. So does the CSIRO."
.

.

"The targets are not based just on economic assumptions but scientific assumptions. Unless the developed world heads for these targets and develops the technologies to get there, the damage caused by climate change to the environment and the world economy will be far greater than the short-term economic pain of emissions cuts."

.
"Most importantly, setting a long-term target takes political courage because sooner rather than later you have to explain how you reach those targets"
.

.
"It's time to take the politics out of targets," the head of the Australian Conservation foundation, Don Henry, said yesterday.
.
.
"Mr Howard yesterday signalled an emissions target, at least until the election, will not be a policy instrument but a political weapon."
.

. ..........
By the way And so do my friends....

.

Peter Garrett's comment on this was.....

"The very clear message that comes from the Prime Minister today is that he is only seeing climate change through the eyes of his electoral prospects."

.

I couldn't have put it better myself Peter.

.

Just out of interest......the theory (see FACT) of Global Warming is nothing new... this first clipping was published in 1932 .. and not enough has been accomplished yet

.

.
And this one in 1953 ....
.

.
And I imagine a whole heap of studies / reports inbetween.. and a plethora afterwards -

Yet still these stuffed shirts sit on their hands.....

.

PLEASE REMEMBER
